You have found a 100% Genuine WW2 Japanese Army Officer sword!Also known as Type 98 Shin Gunto.
Sword is cursive chiselled signed "
Hokke Saburo Nobufusa
".
Obverse tang reads "
Showa JuHachi-Nen ToJi
". (early winter 1943).
Nobufusa's real name is Takahashi Nobufusa. Born May 15, 1909.
He became Mukei Bukazai (Intangible Cultural Asset) of the Miyagi prefecture in November 1967.
Listed in John Slough's book page 128-130.
Cutting edge is a little over 26 inch. Entire sword in scabbard is 40 inch.
Blade is straight,

, very thick and superbly traditional hand forged with
outstanding
gunome saka choji (nie and noie)
temper line slanting toward the tang!!
Blade shows deep o-maru temper point!
Blade shows very fine kizus in original war time polish and it's very sharp!.
There's no rust, no stain, no bend, no crack and no fatal flaw!!
Generally very clean and minty condition!! Blade itself weighs a little over 2 lb!!
Scabbard is heavy metal with no dent and no bend and shows minor aged lacquer loss.
Scabbard retains more than 80% of it's original paint!
Locking pin works fine!
Solid silver habaki!
Tsuba with four seppes stamped 512 with natural patina!
Tsuka ito is tight fit, no loose and no cut with genuine ray skin wrap!
Everything on this sword is intact. Nothing missing!
