For sale is
a nice plate made by the Royal Vienna factory in the late 19th / early 20th century . The center is hand painted with a signed scene of Amor and Ariadne titled the mourning (or grieving) Ariadne. A good quality scene with the typical fancy gilding and raised enamel design to the rim on a reddish ground. The painting is signed K. Weh. These types of plates are very elegant and decorative which is why they are so popular. The plate is in perfect condition. It is 9.375 inches in diameter and 1.375 inches tall so a very nice size. It is marked with the blue shield / beehive mark underneath as well as the title Die trauernde Ariadne and some impressed marks as shown. Austrian Szenenteller 19thC 20thC
