Royal Vienna Napoleonic Battle Scene Purple Luster & Gold Covered Chocolate Cup
Beautiful porcelain covered chocolate cup with entwined snake handle and three feet and saucer. Decorated with a scene depicting the aftermath of a battle with a white and black horse. The black horse appears to be pinning a solider beneath it, with smoke in the background. The scene is framed by gold gilding with small beading and raised gold flowers. HAs a purple luster background with heavy partially raised and beaded gold floral scrollwork and lines. With gold gilding to the handle, feet, and finial. The cup is marked on the inside with a small overglaze blue beehive/shield mark. The saucer is marked on the bottom with a blue overglaze beehive/shield mark. Probably circa 1890 to 1918.
Has some wear to the gilding and to the luster in the well / center of the saucer, and the saucer has a star / spider crack visible on the underside of the saucer. Otherwise good condition.
The cup measures approximately 3 3/8 inches wide including the handle x 5 inches tall to the top of the lid finial.
The saucer measures approximately 5 3/4 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
