Description
Royal Vienna Style Hand Painted Renaissance Dance Cobalt & Gold Plate C. 1860sBeautiful porcelain scalloped edge dinner sized cabinet plate. Nicely decorated with a hand painted scene in the center of a German Renaissance man and woman dancing in a garden, while another man plays a hurdy gurdy. The woman is wearing a blue bodice with a pink skirt. The man dancing with her is dressed in purple and white, with a black hat and shoes. The man playing the hurdy gurdy has black hat, pants, and shoes and is wearing an orange cape. The sky is painted in shades of blue, yellow and peach. There is a tree behind the man playing the hurdy gurdy and next to him is a stone fountain with water spouting from a gargoyle or animal head. The border of the plate is cobalt blue with a gold gilt net/lattice, scrollwork and floral overlay pattern. With gold gilding along the edge. Marked on the reverse with a pseudo Royal Vienna underglaze blue beehive/shield mark and a blue dot. Probably 1860s.
Has quite a bit of wear to the gilding and a very tiny flake to the back edge, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. This is still a very pretty plate even with the wear.
Measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display of the piece.
