    Description

    Ted "The Splendid Splinter" Williams (1918-2002) is and was one of the greatest players in major league baseball history (ranked #8). He played his whole 19 seasons in the majors for the Red Sox (1939-1942 & 1946-1950), serving in the U.S. Navy (1942-1946), and in the U.S.M.C. during the Korean War (1952-1953). Williams was inducted into the HOF in 1966, and his #9 retired in 1984. Some of his many accomplishments in the majors, was being a 17-time All-Star, 6-time batting champion, 2-time A.L. MVP, leading the league 4-times in HRs, a 2-time triple crown winner (1942 & 1947), and last player to date  to hit 400 in a season. In 1941, Williams hit a league leading & career best .406, with league leading 135 runs scored, 37 HRs, and 147 walks, finishing 2nd in MVP. In 1949, he hit .343, with league leading and career high 150 runs scored, 43 HRs, 159 RBIs, 162 walks, and a league leading 39 doubles, while winning the MVP. After his playing days, Williams managed the Senators/Rangers (1969-1972-record 273-364).
